Getting Started using the CIP Sync Sample Project

Use this quick start guide to assist in using the Sample project for bench testing and evaluation of AKD2G EtherNet/IP drives using CIP Sync communication with CompactLogix and ControlLogix PLC masters which are Motion Ready processors prior to Add AKD2G CIP Sync to a New or Existing Project.

Sample Project Requirements

  • AKD2G-SPI (using firmware 2.12.00.001 or greater).
  • Sample project for CIP Sync.
  • EDS file.
  • Studio 5000 programming software.
    • The Sample project was developed in version 34.
  • CompactLogix or ControlLogix Motion Ready PLC processor.
    • The CompactLogix Sample project uses a 1769-L30ERM.

  • The Sample project for CIP Sync is different from the standard Sample project for non-CIP Sync applications in these ways:
    • The AKD2G drive is not a Generic Ethernet Module with CIP Sync.
      • The module was imported into the Rockwell Programming project using the EDS file import tool.
    • CIP Sync has its own unique Add-On Instructions and data types separate from those used with Standard (point-to-point) AKD2G EtherNet/IP.
      • These cannot be mixed and must be implemented as separate entities depending on your application.
    • The Sample project for CIP Sync requires a Motion Ready PLC processor.
      • The standard Sample project can run on either a non-Motion Ready or a Motion Ready PLC processor.
