What is Bandwidth

Bandwidth, or system bandwidth in the realm of tuning a servo system, is a function of the required settling time caused by a disturbance, or motion within the servo system.

If the required system bandwidth is not known, then determine how fast the system needs to settle (from disturbances or motion).

System Bandwidth = 1/ Settling Time (in seconds)

Examples:

If 100 ms settling time is needed, then:
System Bandwidth = 1 / 0.100 seconds
System Bandwidth = 10 Hz

If 25 ms settling time is needed, then:
System Bandwidth = 1 / 0.025 seconds
System Bandwidth = 40 Hz
