EtherCAT Devices
This section provides reference for defining EtherCAT***EtherCAT is an open, high-performance Ethernet-based fieldbus system. The development goal of EtherCAT was to apply Ethernet to automation applications which require short data update times (also called cycle times) with low communication jitter (for synchronization purposes) and low hardware costs devices. Devices are added by right-clicking the EtherCAT entry in the Project Explorer. Devices are seen as branches of the EtherCAT item. Double-clicking a device opens a tab labeled as "EtherCAT: [device name]". See Configuring EtherCAT for information on the tree entry.
