Method Best Practices

When designing methods:

  • Keep each method focused on a single responsibility.
  • Use descriptive names.
    Examples of names are:
    • ValidateInputs()
    • CheckAxisReady().
    • GenerateDiagnostics
    • ResetFaults
  • Avoid large methods that perform unrelated tasks.
  • Reuse methods whenever similar functionality is repeated within the UDFB.

    • A good rule to follow is that the main UDFB implementation should read like a high-level description of the machine behavior while detailed implementation resides in methods.
    • This improves maintainability, troubleshooting, and long-term project scalability.
